Meade Public Library wishes you a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.  We will be closed throughout the entire weekend (Thursday–Sunday) and will open up for regular hours on Monday at 9:30.

We also want to remind you that tickets are on sale for our Holiday Home Tour on December 3.  Read our November 15 post to find out the details of the tour.

This Week at the Library

Here are two events coming up at the library this week. We hope you’ll join us.

November 16, 10:00 a.m.: Thursday Morning Coffee. Join us for coffee, tea and snacks while we share a little bit about the book we have just read. This is not a “formal” book club–every book, every genre is acceptable. Please bring the book you will be talking about and see if you can talk someone else into reading it!

November 18, 6:30 p.m.: We will be watching the movie “Gifted” with Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace. This is a movie about a single man who is raising his child prodigy niece. He is drawn into a custody battle with his mother who has other plans for the child. (For ages 18 and older.) We’ll provide the popcorn and snacks, bring your own favorite drink.

2017 Holiday Home Tour

Holiday Harvest of Books

Our annholiday-wheatual Holiday Harvest of Books is going on during the month of October and early November.

The Holiday Harvest is a chance for people to purchase the pre-selected books in our display and help us stretch our budget just a little bit further.  It is also a great opportunity for people to donate a book in honor or memory of a loved one.

There are books for all ages, interests and budgets to choose from.

Mark Your Calendar

We have several events for you to remember in the next few weeks:

The Book Mobile will be delivering books today (September 20).  Stop in and check out the selections.

The next Evening at the Movies will be on October 7 (Saturday) at 6:30 p.m.  The selection  is a movie about a grieving man who receives a mysterious, personal invitation to meet with God at an abandoned shack in the Oregon wilderness.  (Sorry, but our movie license doesn’t allow us to advertise the name of the movie outside of our library walls.)  Bring your favorite beverage, we’ll provide the popcorn.  This event is for adults only — age 18 and older.

The Friends of the Library will be having a meeting on October 10 (Tuesday) at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Community Room.  They will be planning the Christmas season activities.  We encourage you to get involved with this group.  They do a lot to help out our library.

Labor Day Closing

Image resultMeade Public Library will be closed on Saturday and Monday (September 2 and 4) in observance of the Labor Day holiday.  We will then open for regular business hours on Tuesday, September 5.

Eclipse Viewing Celebration

(Click on image to enlarge it.)

We will also have other eclipse viewing activities:
The Meade Historical Society Museum will be here with an antique model of the solar system which will demonstrate how an eclipse happens.
We will have a live stream fro NASA as the eclipse happens across the country.
Make and enjoy “Sun S’mores”

We have fliers with information about eclipses, safe viewing, how to make a shoebox viewer, and more.

The total eclipse is visible in the Northeast Kansas/Kansas City area at 1:09 p.m.  Our best viewing will be during this time.  Folding chairs will be available or bring your own lawn chairs and blankets for extended viewing.
