Dan, Dan the Magic Man will be our featured performer at the final Summer Program program on Friday, July 8, at 7:00 p.m. here at the library.

Following the program will be our prize drawings and refreshments.  You won’t want to miss out on all of the fun!!!

The last full week of Summer Reading was lots of fun.  We started out the week with Laurie Reimer reading a story to us in German.  It has been interesting to hear some of the different languages being spoken.  It’s amazing how many of Meade’s citizens are bilingual!

On Wednesday, Will Friesen did his “Awesome Chemistry” demonstration.  It was exciting to see all the different colors and “explosions” he created just by mixing different chemicals.

For Lunch & Learn on Thursday we watched a program about the Navajo Code Talkers during World War II.  We were treated to Navajo Fry Bread to eat with our lunch.

Our Family Scavenger Hunt finished up this week also.  We had to extend it one extra day due to being closed for an afternoon because of the heat.  We had some busy families out there hunting down things from around the world!

This coming week promises to have lots of fun activities.  The Emily Pinnick Room is always open with activities and crafts you can do at any time.  Family Story Time will be on Monday morning.  The Meade County Extension will give the Wednesday program focusing on healthy Mexican food. 

Our Lunch & Learn will be on Thursday and will be on the Life Cycle of the Honeybee.  We’ll also have a honey tasting party with 11 different varieties of honey (white gold, eucalyptus, wildflower, clover, alfalfa, orange blossom, dandelion, tupelo, buckwheat, blueberry and sage).  We did this three years ago, and it was lots of fun.  Come see if you can tell the difference in flavor.  Younger children are welcome, but any child under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

It has been a very busy week at Meade Public Library.  We started the week out with Family Story Time led by Marshan Padgett who told a picture story from Africa.  On Wednesday, Tam Raynor gave a presentation called “Tanzania, A Great Place to Live.”  Tam and her husband, Chris, were missionaries in Tanzania for six years.  On Thursday, we had our first Lunch & Learn with a short video on The Taj Mahal and sampled Mulligatawny Soup, a curry soup from India.
